Vaspin may represent a link between the endocrine and inflammatory processes involved in the development of atherosclerosis or diabetes. An indication of this is provided by studies showing that vaspin inhibits TNF-α-induced adhesion of monocytes to smooth muscle cells as well as the intracellular signaling cascade induced by TNF-α.
