Resistin is an 11.3k Da cysteine-rich protein consisting of 92 amino acids. It is expressed predominantly in bone marrow, lung, pre-adipocytes, macrophages and islets of Langerhan.
A receptor and the associated signaling pathways are not yet known. A role for resistin could be in adipocyte differentiation/proliferation as well as in endothelial inflammatory processes. A novel application of resistin as a potential biomarker in cancer is discussed.
Mediagnost offers a well-validated test system that allows further exploration of the role of resistin and its use as a biomarker.
