IGFBP-6 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 6) consists of 216 amino acids, but different isoforms occur, of which the one consisting of 212 amino acids is the most common. Furthermore, IGFBP-6 can be glycosylated and phophorylated. Therefore, polyclonal antibodies are used here to allow measurement of total IGFBP-6. In addition to regulating IGF bioavailability, IGFBP-6 can inhibit cell proliferation, induce apoptosis, affect angiogenesis as well as cell migration in an IGF-independent manner.
The IGFBP-6 ELISA reliably determines the concentration of human IGFBP-6 in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants.
