IGFBP-1 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1) is a component of the IGF system and one of seven binding proteins that bind IGF-I with high affinity. It has a molecular mass of 25.3 kDa, contains 18 cysteines, and is postranslationally modified by phosphorylation, affecting IGF-I affinity . IGFBP-1 expression appears to be inhibited by insulin, whereas cortisol and glucagon stimulate its production. Also an influence on Preeclampsia is discussed in the literature.
The IGFBP-1 ELISA (insulin-like growth factor binding protein -1) reliably determines the concentration of human IGFBP-1 in serum, plasma and amniotic fluid.
