Insulin-like growth factor (IGF-II) consists of 67 amino acids with a molecular weight of 7.5kDa and is expressed in various tissues, especially during embryonic development. IGF-II binds with high affinity to a receptor without signal transduction (mannose-6-phosphate receptor) but also to IGF-I and insulin receptor. It regulates fetal growth, is often expressed by tumor cells and may have an impact in cardiovascular diseases. Mediagnost offers a test system for the measurement of IGF-II.

Reference values Blum W, Schweizer R: Insulin-like growth factors and their binding proteins; in Ranke MB (ed): Diagnostics of endocrine function in children and adolescents. Basel, Karger, 2003. Measurement was performed after acid-ethanol extraction and values were corected for recovery (factor 1.2).
